I love Matroschkas so much. As a kid I was always fascinated by them, opened them all up to the smallest one and lined them all up. We never had a set of them at home but relatives of mine had one so I had to play with them whenever I went there.
Nowadays I have a stylish version in my bathroom of them in black and white. I don´t play but dust them every now and then. Things change when people grow up.
When I found this quote I thought immediately of this set of dolls and had to make a pattern out of them.

I lined the Matroschkas up as I did in my early childhood years, imagined my daughter as the smallest one and myself as the next one in size. Then I thought of all the female ancestors that stand behind me in a line. My mom, my grandmothers, my great-grandmothers, etc. What a warm and cozy feeling having them all standing behind me, practical & spiritual, soft and powerful.
